Default 15,000 Mile Maintainence

I'm coming up on 15,000 miles, just wondering if people have been getting service done at their dealers, or finding an independent shop to do the work. Any suggestions?

You can go almost anywhere, I prefer dealer myself. These 15K interval services vary in price from dealer to dealer, so shop around. But if stuff needs to be replace i.e. brake pads, I would stick with OEM. I also would look for a dealer that will loan you a car fir free for your 15K inverval services.

Piercey wants $189.95 for the work for standard checks, filter replacements, fluids, etc , does this sound reasonable?

Just ask them what they want to perform the service as published in the owner's manual.

Many dealers "pack" the bill by performing unneeded work like "engine flushes" and other such snake oil. Don't just say "Do the 15,000 mile service." as that gives them carte blanche to do whatever they deem to be their "15,000 mile service". Make sure that they are clear on the idea of "as published in the owner's manual".

An independent mechanic might be a good idea. Experienced dealer mechanics often move on to start their own shops where they can charge less and keep more of what you pay. Get recommendations from friends for good mechanics.

getting a 15 K service is dumb. i do them everyday and they are totally worthless (to the customer)

your trans fluid is made to last a lot longer than 15,000. Pull out the dipstick, still bright red? then you're fine. don't need to pay for new stuff.

wipers: if they work well and aren't torn than you don't need new ones.

oil change, air filter, drum brake clean and adjust, tire rotate are all worthwhile. but you can easily do all that yourself as long as you own a jack with stands. most of your fludis probabaly arent low.

so basically, if you're mechanically inclined and not lazy you can pretty much take care of this sevice yourslef. if not, i'd say get it and forego the trans service and charge for it.
