I'd get a good independent mechanic. For our Subaru Forester we were being quoted between $500 and $600, and most of it is just inspections!! I did as much as I could myself (oil, air filter, coolant, etc) and the total at our independent mechanic was a bit over $200. =)

The book says:
? Replace engine oil and oil filter
? Rotate tires
? Replace engine air filter
? Replace spark plugs
? Tighten drive shaft bolt
? Inspect the following:
__ Ball joints and dust covers
__ Brake lines and hoses
__ Brake linings/drums and brake pads/discs4
__ Drive shaft boots
__ Engine coolant
__ Exhaust pipes and mountings
__ Front differential oil
__ Transmission fluid or oil

An oil and filter change should be $20.
Rotating tires should be $20.
Replacing air filter should be $20.
Replacing spark plugs should be $20.
The rest is checking (looking to see if more work is needed).

When I get my xB, I am counting on taking it to the excellent import shop that has maintained my Mazda for the past 16 years, and letting them do the services and checks.

Don't they drain transmition fluids and steering fluids or whatever alse?

Sorry, not car person but i was thinking they change ALL the fluids ... not just oil.

Thank you all for your input

I got quoted around $340 for this service... it included an "engine flush" i have no clue what that is, can someone help me out here. I opted to not get it done at the time b/c i dont walk around w/ $400 in my pocket and i dont really know if it's necessary. I've only been doing the oil changes come to think of it and my car's nearing 30k, what do u think i should do?
