Default 5k mile service

alright well my 07 has about 4k miles, so its time to at least start thinking about my 5k mile service! do any of you remember how much you paid for the standard service (neglecting any warranty issues you may have had)? also, i'll be getting my oil changed for the first time. ive heard a lot of good things about mobile 1 synthetic. does it really make THAT much of a difference over the standard oil they put in? thanks for the responses/opinions, and happy holidays!

All you need done at 5k miles is an oil change, which should be free. You get 3 free oil changes to use anytime within 3yrs/36000 miles.

I use mobil1 synthetic. I recommend either using that or amsoil synthetic. I switched at about 12K...wish I did earlier. I personally would rather do the oil change myself and pay for the supplies than bring it to the dealer for free...its inconvenient and guaranteed to mess something up!

i work at a dealership nad as far as the 5000 mile service id just wait and do the 15000 mile service because thats the one that is really going to benifit you the most. and as far as mobil 1 unless you have increased the factory hp and tq numbers by a ton i would say its just a waste of money. but that is just my $0.02. like i aways say "its your car do what you want." good luck with your tc.

did you put it in your tranny or the motor?? because engine oil does not affect how it shifts.

Mobil1 or GC Castrol Syntec.
Use the OEM filters - you can get 10-paks at www.trdsparks.com.
Get the YZZF1 filter.

The free oil change includes the filter.

$40 for tire rotation isn't bad. It should take about 30 min. max, for the tire rotation and most dealers get about $80/hr or more for labor.

My car goes in on Tuesday for the 15K oil change.

$40 for a tire rotation is insane.

First option = DIY = free
Second option = go to mavis / town fair tire / mieneke / any of those = free (usually)
Third option = go to the local mechanic = $20

Fourth option? = go to dealer for $40??? I think not!

(it takes me less than 30 minutes to do my own tire rotation with only jack stands and a floor jack with a breaker bar. They have a lift with impact tools. No more than 5 minutes it needed, IF they are slow and you have wheel locks. Otherwise, maybe 3 minutes and 30 seconds to pull the car out and hand you the key!

What does the synthetic oils really do?
will my car be ..

Faster?
Quieter?
Smoother?
Reliabler? (more reliable)

How do you guys notice a difference?
Also, just to let you know, I posted in another thread but Rose Toyota/Scion of San Diego told me I had to use synthetic for my 07.

GC castrol syntec in our 06's that spec. for 5w-20? Isn't the GC a heavy 30? More towards a 40?

I understand that GC is considered nectar of the Gods over at BITOG, but I think it's a little too thick.

I'm using regular castrol syntec 5w-20 now..

Thoughts?

Our '06 was originally spec'd and shipped with 5w30.
NO problems using that.
5w30 is 5w30, regardless of whether it's "thicker' or not.
We'll see. I will use it once it's spring and getting warmer again.
I can always go back - I only bought enough for one change...

No worries, hope that helps everyone... Using the right weight oil is extremely important especially if you live in a extreme climate area like florida or washington state or minnisota or something. I advise to read that article if you don't know whats already in there. Always know the basics and go from there... Don't test out a high performance oil on a car thats... not high performance.

Glad I could help.
