Default Already Stuck (strut bar)

First time mechanic here. Figured I couldn't get into too much trouble mounting a strut bar so I bought the DC Sports version off eBay. Digested the instructions and dutifully went out and bought socket wrench set, torque wrench, jack and stands.

The work begins and immediate problems arise: No way to get the standard 3/8 wrench in to loosen the back nuts much less the torque wrench later! The stuff about raising the car seems to pertain to getting the nuts off the studs, but I can't even get to that issue. So... what now?

so you don't need to jack the car off the ground to get the bar on? are you supposed to leave the stock black spacer on underneath the bar brackets?
