Default the best gasoline

i was reading super street and educated myself a little bit more about gasoline and how certain companies voluntarily follow this program called top tier. more information can be found on another thread about this.

https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...light=top+tier

does anyone know each companies' rating over the government standard. for example, i know shell's reg and mid grade is double the requirement of governement standard and their premium is five times. does anyone know the other companies' ratings?

btw mods....i'm a noob and couldn't post on the off-topic so i decided to post here.

[edit] how could i forget shell for the poll? that was the one i use!

I don't think any of those stations even exist around me. I usually just go with Sunoco though. It's the best for the area. No Shell, no BP, none of the above options.

My last two cars, a Porsche 924S and SAAB 900 Turbo
both LOVED Shell. Well, at least that's what the butt dyno
tells me. They just seem pepier.

I've been using Shell exclusivly on the box, and recently
switched to Mobile 1 oil, and next week I'll be switching to
RedLine MT fluid.

I'll tell you in 100,000 how this all turns out!

Edit: I forgot to mention, the SAAB had 330,000+ miles on it when I was hit
head on and it was totalled...I was hoping to hit 500,000. Heh, maybe on the box...

i can't believe i forgot shell......its the gas that i use regularly.

i wonder why mobil isn't part of the top tier program? aren't they supposed to be really good stuff too? i remember my dad used to tell me that if there is no shell, mobil is the next best thing.

Shell's soooo overrate and overpriced. I'v only used Chevron, 'cause it's the 2nd most overrate and overpriced. haha. Regular.

I use Shell exclusively in my xB. While it may be overpriced, the xB's fuel economy means I only have to spend an extra dollar every couple weeks, so I go with it.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks Shell is the good stuff.

I get grief from my friends because they fill up at any cheap station like all gas is
the same or something. When they tell me it is, I ask them what their favorite soda
is and ask if they mind if I switch it with the Safeway generic equivalent.

That usually shuts them up.

not being sarcastic here, but does it really make a difference if you put 90+ octane in a non-aspirated four banger especially when it's not even tweeked out? or is it mostly iridium spark plug like placebo effect?

edit*

also found something on the department of energy website, which pretty much states that the only difference between competing brands is the additives they put in.

http://www.eia.doe.gov/neic/experts/contactexperts.htm
http://www.eia.doe.gov/neic/brochure/gas04/gasoline.htm

i also remember a department of energy analysis of where the different gasoline companies purchased their crude oil. this is for crude oil and not refined oil. but if you're at all interested in not buying saudi oil, the following companies mostly use american, mexican, south american, and african supplies: sunoco, hess, citgo. america! f yea! lol.

I buy from whatever gas station is the cheapest, and can accept credit card payments at the pump

I get 5% cash back from gas stations when I use my credit card

Marathon.....actually it really doesn't matter to me...as long as it's not Casey's.....did you know that Casey's general stores actually have gauges to meter the amount of water in the gas tanks.......I know a few people that had their fuel systems messed up from casey's gas.....

My car runs fine on just about anything. I bet gas quality only controls whether or not it smells like a &!*#)%! stink bomb.

There's other ways to think of gas . . . How about helping poor people?

I don't mean to get political, this article goes there, but this is for anyone who wants to think beyond the octane. Apologies if this post offends.
