Default can you see the AC clutch engaging

Does anyone know if you can see the xB ac clutch engaging/un-engaging (spin/no spin)? I could see this on previous cars of mine, and my xB's is always spinning...

I’m trying to track down a DIESEL sounding noise (cruising along steady and just give it a bit of gas @ 1500-2000 rpm and then you here it for a few seconds). I think something on a pulley is going out… and maybe my ac is on all the time and wearing out (I got to this since the air from the vent is always a bit colder than the outside temp???)

Any Help Greatly Appreciated!

From what I understand, the AC unit in the XB and XA do not have a clutch that you can see engage...it's a different kind of system.

I remember reading a post about this a few months ago.

Yes, it is technically engaged all the time. The amount it compresses is controlled internally.
