Default Car Wash DIY or you pay?

I have the Mr Clean washing kit, but its still time consuming. What do you guys do? Take it to the car wash or wash it yourself?

[This could be moved to Maintenance & Car Care]

I use the Mr Clean kit, too; it cut my clean/dry time to nearly a half-hour. Needless to say, I like it.

But some people criticize the kit for (I believe) ?taking some wax off the car? I'm not too sure, but I think I've read that somewhere. Regardless, I still use it for my daily-driver and what not.

Anyone who cares about their paint and finish washes their car by hand with quality materials.

Wash it yourself! I always get satifaction after I wash my car, gotta love that mirror look.

It really doesn't take me any longer than 30 minutes to wash my car, but I will tell you it takes time and care when trying to get the perfect carwash.

Quality washing materials is a must!
-Mequeir's 'SuperPlush' Wash Mitt
-Mequeir's 'WaterMagnet' Microfiber Waffle-weaved drying towel
-Car wash soap (Mother's Gold Car Soap=best!) (don't use dish washing soap)

I wash my own car with the Mr. Clean gun but with Gold Class soap in it(Diluted b/c it's to thick to flow). I'm not gonna pay someone to ruin my paint.

I always wash myself but it sucks because I live in an apartment and don't have a garage. So I always have to go to a coin-op place to wash myself and then find someplace in the shade for me to wax.

I didn't live too far from home when I was dormin' with roommates on campus. It was great, I'd have the dorm-mates come back to the house to clean their cars and change oil; it never really bothered my parents, and the dormiesalways had a clean car that was runnin' fresh.

I'd go searching for a hose nozzle somewhere in your apartment complex, usually they'll have one around for maintenance purposes. As for going to coin-op places... nothing but my wash mitt and drying towel touch my car. I don't really trust those long handles brushes and am scared of high pressure washing my car.

I hand wash mine every time....not letting anyone else touch my car. The automated car washes kill your paint. And you never know who went through it before you...it could have been someone who just finished off-roading and left rocks and all kinds of crap on the cleaning brushes.

I only use microfiber wash mitts and drying towels with quality Mequier's and Mothers products.

I do it myself. I save money, get some exercise and get a great feeling doing it myself. Did I mention saving money.

The coin-op place for me for two reasons:

1) I'm low enough where I scrap/can get stuck on the automated washers (common in gas stations)
2) At 116k miles now... the box has seen enough paint damage (especially front bumper) that no brush can do it any more harm.

Ah... freedom is not having to worry about the finish of your paint. Just make sure it is clean and wax it every now & again.

I always handwash myself, I take it to a diy in the cold parts of winter just to clean off the salt.

I swing by the DIY coin-op about once a week to hose off the worst of the crud, and take a bucket and mitts with me every once in a while to give it a more real wash while I'm at it. Based on everything I've read, I wouldn't touch the brush or take my box through a machine wash.

Do it myself the majority of the time. During the winter I take it to the carwash a little more often just so I don't have to get out there with a hose and bucket when the temp is down in the 20s. I don't use the brushes though...caught a bunch of kids breaking up glass bottles and sticking it in the brushes.
