Default Check Engine light coming on at 4500 miles

This started happening today, but whenever I start up my car, the maintenance light blinks for about 5-10 seconds then turns off. Has this always happened? Am I a complete idiot? I know that when you turn the car on, all the cluster lights come on briefly, but the maintenance light stays on for an extra 5-10 seconds.

I'm at 4500 miles right now and was planning on doing my first oil change this weekend.

Yes I searched and couldn't find anything.

Anyone?

Thanks!

I believe it's in your owner's manual as well.

Yeah it's pretty cool now that I think about it, I would've kept putting it off and not noticed.

Thanks again dudes.

hold down the mileage button while you start the car and hold it for 5 secs after. it should reset. If not i believe after you hold it then it blinks, and you hit it again to clear it

The light starts doing that at 4500 miles to warn you that your 5000 mile oil change is due.

To reset the light make sure the odometer is in the odo mode turn the key off, hold down the trip reset while doing this turn the key on, continue to hold down the button and you will see the screen read ---------- wait for the lines to disapear one by one and then the screen will read 000000 and its reset.

This light is NOT the check engine light but rather another idiot light next to CEL. Correct??

Yeah, the manual should have this "fix" inserted into the index. I thought it was rather difficult to find in the manual.

Still lovin the tC!!!

Instead of calling it "maintenance required" Scion should of just labeled it "oil change time" . Would clear up a lot of confusion. I have had passengers ask me if something was wrong with my car already when my light stayed on at 5k miles.
