Default Constant water buildup whenever engine is running?

It's almost as if my AC condenser is on ALL THE TIME. Everytime I park my car, a large puddle of water is left on the ground. Hell, even when I have the heat running it still drips water.....................

Tonight I left my car idling for over an hour and there was a trail of water over 6 feet long in my driveway...............

:?: WTH is up with that? Did a search "water", "water AND buildup", "water AND ground" and found nothing.

I did the same thing last night...that was because I locked myself out of my car with the key in the ignition...lol. I didn't notice any water on the ground... I _did_ notice lots of heat coming from under the car, though..

Why would you let you car idle for an hour? I understand being locked out, but you. That's really bad for the car.

AS a test to see if the water builds up all the time. Also, periodic not "really" bad, but excessively idling your car for hours at a time isn't the best thing to do for your car, but one hour isn't going to hurt Kind of like eating fast food, a couple of times will not hurt, but eating it everyday is a one way ticket to a fat ___.

Running your engine without chinging your oil for 20k miles is "really" bad for your car, idling is not.

for the a/c to turn on without having the a/c button pushed in is when you have your vent ***** turnd all the way o the defrost position which is the two positions on the right side of the ****. turn it to your left side past the windshield defrost position and your a/c will turn off. toyotas are fatory set like that for the a/c to turn on when set to defrost position. tell me if it stops the water puddle.. if it doesnt then call your insurance and claim flood damage hehe jk PM me if you got any questions :D good luck

Whoa! For real?!?! I constantly have my my ***** in the defrost position with the heat running at setting 1 or 2 (stops the windows from fogging up better than using the A/C does). Crazy - what a STUPID feature. In FL, if I use cool air to defog the windows condensation builds up on the outside of the windshield. Use heat and you won't have any problem with condensation on the windshield.

Geeze - whatever IDIOT at Toyota thought up this feature is a REAL bunghole. Thanks for the help - now I know I've been robbing my car power used by the A/C since day one!!!!!

Anycar with a properly working A/C does that.

I've owned a Nissan Maxima and 200sx, and they never did this. When you move the Air **** to what position you want, it would just simply deflect air to that location. If I wanted to damned A/C to come on, I'd press the damned A/C button. I don't want the A/C to turn on when I am defecting air to the windshield because in humid enviroments, putting hot air on those locations works better. (although I assume that cooling the air before heating it removes moisture from the air).

My problem is not with the A/C condensation (duh - I'm not that stupid), but for why the A/C was running in the first place - now I know.

Ya - it's wierd that the A/c light DOESN"T come on in the xB! Anyway, I've been wondering why I've been averaging 26mpg around town, now I think I've found my culprit

Thanks for the help guys.

fyi...
that is the best way to defrost/defog windows. move the climate control to the windshield setting (this turns on the a/c and might even force off the recirc air setting). and turn the temp setting to hot.

the a/c is not meant to cool the car while doing this but rather to act as a dehumidifier.

also, most newer cars will stop the a/c (if it was on) when you floor it. ( i first noticed this when i was riding in my friend car. he would floor it and the air coming out of the vents would get warm, start crusing again cold air was coming out)

Yea, I figured it was to dehumidify the air, but it was robbing me of power and I didn't even know it and adversely affecting my gas mileage. In my 200SX, once you hit a certain RPM, the the power to the condenser would be cut to aid in the car's performance.
Oh well, I'm just glad I figured it out

i'd like to here from you later and see how your gas mileage is doing...

then we would all know how much that a/c robs us

Well, with the a/c condenser running all of the time I was averaging 25-26mpg in pure city traffic. I just filled it up a few minutes ago, so I'll know what MPG figures I'll be getting by tomorrow night - I'll post my results in this thread.

without A/C - 27mpg - I'd say about a 2mpg difference.
