Default Dash cleaning, R you doing it?

I must confess I have only cleaned my car maybe twice since I got it.
I have been getting it cleaned at my wifes job every Friday.
But I wanted to do a good cleaning on the dash, I'm afraid of using Armor All,
what is everyone using for the dash & panels????

[quote="ltj42884"]I'm using this nifty stuff called Search

Glad to know that it works for someone. I've never been able to get the search function on this site to work correctly!!!

I put in "XB dome light" and it gives me 6550 of the latest posts. None of them have anything to do with a dome light.
All I want to know is what bulb goes in them so I can replace the one I lost when I pulled my interior out to soundproof it. Now that I've put it back in I can't find what happened to my bulb.

read the instructions about and, not, and or that are just to the left of where you enter your search word on the "advanced search" page...it took a couple minutes but i ended up using "dome and bulb not headlight not led" with the "ICE Electrical, Interior" forum selected

you also could have looked in your manual...i do believe that it is listed in there

As for the dash, I do NOT like ArmorAll type products, they make your dash material dependent on getting oiled down all the time, it usually attracts more dust and will just bake in the sun. I bought a California Car Duster that has a small duster for the interior, works well. Also, Swiffer Dusters will do the job. For the nooks and crannies, I bought a large make-up brush at a Beauty supply shop and use that on the stereo, instruments and the corners of the dash. Sometimes I will wipe it down with my Absorber after drying the car.

I use a product called Black Chrome on the trim, inside and out, but I've been having trouble finding it lately. the stuff I've got I've had for years. it is a little thicker, kinda like hair conditioner consistency. Wipe it on sparingly and it lasts for a long time. You can totally see the difference on the rear trim when I took the seats out and that was several months later...

i armorall everything. then wipe off the excess with a towel. i think it looks great. a swiffer in the glove box helps keep the lint and dust off.

I like Meguires for the dash. It does not get as shiny, and does not leave a greasy finish.

ArmorAll is oil based. the oil base will cause the material to which it is applied to deteriorate (sp?) over time.

Meguiars' products, to my knowledge, are all water based.

Cliffs: Oil... bad. Water... good.

I was somewhat afraid of the armorall since the dash is not soft like most vehicles, but I could give the Meguiars a try.
Thanks everyone!

I hate armorall it makes everything so oily feeling. If you put it on your dash it makes even more dust collect to it. I would just use water/windex and a towel.

Meguiar's dash and trim foam.

No greasyness, no super high gloss, just clean and smooth. Use it with a microfiber towel, but as suggested above, make sure there's no lint on the towel.

That's the way to go!

Armor All not only is petroleum based, but it's got formaldehyde in it.
That's not good for you or your interior.

Default Swiffer

I just use a swiffer cloth. I heard that the oil in ArmorAll will only absorb heat and crack and warp the dash on new cars. A friend used it and after a year the dash looked 10 years old. Especially cause it's not uncommon for it to hit 110 in the middle of summer here. Anyways, I find the swiffer works great.

Also, anyone with leather upgrade can use a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser to clean the leather. I discoverd how well it works when I had my Jetta. It was tan leather and never came clean. When I used the magic eraser all the dirt came out of the grooves etc. It looked like brand new and required very little effort. And since there are no chemicals in the magic eraser there was no harm to the leather, it just has a great texture to pull out dirt.

Just my 2 cents

i hate armorall because i've heard bad things about dash board's cracking...but their 'wipes in a bottle' cleaner is actually quite handy....though i havent finished one bottle, and havent had too many dust problems, even if i drive w/the windows down every day
