Default Engine problem! Please Help!

I was driving my xA on the freeway tonight *ok so I hit around 110-115* all of a sudden my CHECK ENGINE, ABS, AND BRAKE LIGHT come on and my speedometer jumps from 115 to 0 yet it was still driving at the same speed and my odometer was still working. I get into the shoulder and check my car but I'm not very car literate and I really didn't notice anything. I let my car sit for a couple minutes and everything was back in working order except now my check engine light dosen't turn off. Anyone have any ideas they can toss my way, I kinda smelt something but I'm not sure if it was where I was located or if it was the car.

If it helps any, the car is an automatic

Thank You ahead to any opinions or ideas,
Shane

The reason that your speedo jumped from 115 to 0 so quickly is because the car told the engine to shut down and slow down because you went past the governor...same thing happened on my 2003 Honda Civic...I didn't know that the check engine light stayed on though my civic shut off after I pulled the key out etc...good luck figuring it out...

cool one of my buddies told me that might be the case. As far as the check engine light, I was thinking it could have been from the complimentary oil change I had done a month or so ago but then again I thought that would be highly ironic

Just do this pull the negative battery cable and your efi fuse (in the little black box next to the battery) The fuse should be a 15. Pull them both out for a minute them replace the fuse and the battery cable. This should reset your computer drive it around for a bit and if the light comes back on tack it to your dealer.

lol i was scared for a second that you really had an engine problem or something..

glad to see it was operator-induced and not a defect :D

I wont pretend I never drove that fast on LA freeways. I hit 110 on the 210 freeway back in 1990. Some punk in a VW Bug thought he could outpace my 1986 Toyota pickup. The PU didn't have a governor back then, other than the fact that a 2.4 liter engine without fuel injection just can go any faster. The bug was governed by Murhpy's law and I saw a flash of light from his rear end as his engine blew up.

It constantly amazes me that I actually made it to adulthood... at least made it without ever needing a feeding tube.

i think with the whole thing that happened last night im gonna blame it on my friends. They were laughing that my car is only pushing 108 so i guess i was tempted to show them our scions were no joke. long story short, they stopped laughing
