Default Filler Neck for the gas tank

I have owned several cars in my lifetime and for the exception of my 1973 Volkswagen Beetle all of them had an anti siphon door thingy at the beginning of the neck. The piece flaps back when you put in the nozzle to pump the gas. I could swear I remember the first time I put gas in that the little flap was there so now its not it can't fall my way so it had to have fallen into the tank and my dealer doesn't want to accept responsibilty for it but if it ever would get close to where the fuel pump sux's up the gas it will cause it to stall out. On the other hand I own A 1988 4runner which has the little door thingy. If I remember right all cars by law have to come with one of these in order to pass inspection (New Jersey) (Florida lucky no inspection).

Please some valuable feedback on this.......!

None of the xB's or xA's have that little flap. I was curious about the same thing so I checked some of the cars we have on the lot... no flap.

Toyota isn't using a flap on their models anymore.

yeah, howcome, howcome, howcome?! ;-)

I bet they do some squeeze design so it's not needed and this is why we can only fill the thing up at 1/3gal per minute. arugh. Maybe they decided Benzine isn't so bad after all or that we don't really need the ozone layer.

The little spring-loaded flap used to be a requirement to prevent people from filling an unleaded tank from a leaded pump. The little door made it so you couldn't hold the larger leaded nozzle in the filler opening depression and pump gas in.

These days, you cannot get leaded gas anywhere (except race gas or avgas), so the tank only has to have the restrictor, not the flap.

Personally, I don't miss the little flap at all! Now if they can just get rid of the restrictor.

George <-- who loves the 3" filler on his VWs!

wow... benzine, huh? might want to dumb it down for some folks in this forum...
(((breaks out crayons and construction paper)))
Gasoline= petroleum benzine

Why is my brain so full of stupid ____!!! AAAAAGH!!!!

I'm so glad to hear that the "little flap" is "missing" from other scions... I just noticed that the other day... I though perhaps it was causing the gasoline to vaporize more rapidly and thus lowering my mileage... but alas, I think it's my lead foot

most of us here in NJ wouldn't notice anyway, considering we aren't "allowed" to pump our own gas

If you screw your gas cap on correctly it wont evaporate.
