Default Floor Mat Preservation / PHOTOS

I think that I must have received the better mat set, the original sets of Scion mats were week, as I have read on this board. I have not seen any wear. I also have protected my mats with more mats, mats on my mats! I bought the cheapest set of clear genaric auto mats, 2 sets of them for about 10$ each. I cut one small slit in the driver's mat so I could hook it onto the hook that holds the Scion mats in place.

In the back, I used 5 mats and I feel well protected from dirty feet that I can not see while driving.

I may cut the overlaped part off and secure them togather with clear tape on the bottom.

Clean up time is reduced. Mud, snow and dirt is easily washed off these clear mats.

a little bit of overkill...and the point of floor mats is for them to get dirty because you can take them out and wash them, because you can't really take your carpet out and wash it.

People, putting mats on top of mats is like putting clear vinyl on top of your sofa so that it stays new! What's the point of it being new if you can't enjoy it! Why keep the floor mats in if you're going to put different ones on top of them!
ARGH! I guess this is one of my pet peeves...

hey bro

i've used those mats very similar to those before. they're super thin so they will end up slipping often and curling/bunching up where your pedals are sometimes even getting in the way of pedal travel. over time, they will yellow with age no matter how much you clean em. god i hated those things...

thought i'd save a buck or two getting em, and i got what i payed for.

Default CLAP YOUR FEET!!

O.K., I understand your comments. NO, my sofa is not covered in vinyl, however, if people walked on it, grinding thier dirty, oily & gummy sneakers into the fabric, I might use the vinyl overlays. I would not want to clean your mats.
I am a belt AND suspenders kind of guy. I also clap my feet before placing them on my mats. Do you people clap your feet to remove any snow/dirt before swinging them into your car? Well you'll have to clap your feet to get into mine. Perhaps I should have posted this thread in the obsessive compulsive forum.
I do enjoy my mat solution. Clean up is a breeze, how do you wash ground in dirt out of fabric floor mats? The bottom of my sneakers are fine with the plastic mats. If some chick wanted to go barefoot in my car, they could be removed easily (the mats I mean). If I were to bring my car to a show, I could remove them for a while.
Sorry to hit your pet peeve with this, I am not new or rich, the point is cleanleness and/or easy of cleaning on car wash day.
And it ends right here, one set of clear crud mats on my optional Scion mats.
I thought the slit for the hook was a clever way to keep them in place, but I guess I'm way out of line here.

I do clap my feet before i get in (well its more like a clunking, i have a size 14 shoe). But i did invest in my carpet/rubber all season scion mats.

Q: how do you wash ground in dirt out of fabric floor mats
A: To get out that dirt and grim that gets in there you take a course brush and brush to loosen the dirt then vacum.

No replacement for good ole elbow grease.

You could, not enter a show save that entry fee and get some all weather mats that are more durable. In the end it will cost you less. You may think you have a cost effective way of solving the problem but in the long run you will end up paying more money. Those are not durable they do bunch, yellow, rip, and wear out. You will have to go out and pay to replace them, now you have paid twice for a solution for your car.

As an example my parents always bought cheap coffee makers to replace the one before, every year i told them get a good one. But every several months the coffee maker would break and they would replace it. I tracked that they spent more money in the long run replacing cheap coffee makers then if they invested in a really nice one that would have lasted that entire time they where replacing. Me and my fiancee had to buy them a nice stainless steel grind and brew and so far its well surpassed Their replacment mark.

In the end scions were meant for personalization and your making it your own, which is great, we love to see that. But on a forum you have to have a thick skin. Not only is this not person to person so people tend to have more ***** then usual but most dont care about the end result.

As long as your happy with your solution thats all that matters, but a side effect of posting on forums is your gunna get advice, observation, and comments that are both helpful, unwanted, and criticizing. Take it all as a bi-product of posting.

I bought a bath rug that was about 12" by 18" (black in color). I put that over my existing floor mat to protect it. What I love about it is that I can take the rug and shake it out it ( i do this daily) to get the crap off of it...

I like it... I'm a clean freak too! Don't sweat the negative comments. Rubber mats are easier to clean. And over time, your factory mats will hold up better.

I just took the carpet insert out of my mats and left the rubber ... the carpet was only rubbing off on my side so I figure I would get ahead of it... plus rubber is a hellava lot easier to clean mudd off of than carpet.

I have the Scion mats and I want to keep them looking nice as long as possible. So, I went to WalMart and bought the thin, $11 clrar mats for front and back. They look real good, and you can easily see the SCION name throught them. Makes cleaning the car easeir and protects my interior - so who cares what anybody else thinks!

Cant you always go back and buy the scion mats at Toyota or im sure someone makes duplicate mats that look the same. Have 1 pair for show and another pair to drive in. Kinda like a good pair of shoes to go on a date and a pair of work shoes when you are shoveling elephant ____.

Why not go to Lowes or Home Depot and buy some of their black carpet... same stuff you use for speaker boxes... use your existing mats as templates and cut out new ones from the black carpet. Then you have covers for your Scion mats without the stupid ___ look of the crappy lame clear mats.
I'm not knocking your idea of protecting the mats... it's just that the clear ones look sooo damn stupid...
