If you don't take care of your floor mats, you probably don't take excellent care of the rest of your vehicle either.
Lighten up buddy... its just a car... personally I dont really car if the car get dirty... its dark carpet and personally I would rather just clean the carpet than have those ugly plastic things everywhere. On top of that I'm pretty sure that, that guy was joking and not being serious.
Each time I get in my car, I clap my feet.
I don't go as far as expecting my passengers to do the same. Even my girlfriend, who rides in my car about as much as I do, hasn't gotten it through her pretty little head to knock the dirst and/or snow off of her feet before getting in my car. To that end, I got Weather Tech rubber floor mats for my car shortly after I bought my car. On my old car, these mats worked great -- and they still do on my xA -- but they had one flaw: they tore up the carpet underneath them. So now, if you look under my Weather Tech mats, you will find the factory carpet mats, still in mint condition, and they haven't been growing mold all spring long because of the snow that was tracked in all winter.
Point I'm trying to make is that mats under mats have a good purpose.

To all the clean people, I give you a HAND-STANDING OVATION... that's when you stand on your hands and CLAP YOUR FEET!
The most important message here is that you can use the floor mat hook to hold your upper mats in place as seen in the first photo.
There can be some squeeking if it is raining out and your feet are wet, but that is the sound of the optional Scion mats staying clean. I love this set-up, clear shows the color matching and the 'Scion' shows clearly. I cut the overlaped mats in the rear and used clear tape to make a wall to wall effect in the rear.

A clean car is a happy car. And reflects the care and condition of the car, IMHO.
