a freak scratched my door with a key. what shud i do 2 fix?
someone scratched my passenger door, (seems like an accident versus a keying, like some old lady's purse hit the car and the buckle caught) right in the middle maybe 2 inches in length and pretty deep, when my car was 6 months old. paid $400 to have them paint just the door. there is a slight color mismatch but only if you really stare at it. in fact, it is the same color as the bumpers (which have flex or whatnot in them) so it doesn't stick out too much.
moving this to the "maintenance and car care" forum....hopefully someone can offer a relatively inexpensive fix....it's gonna be up to you to decide how much of a "fix" you'll be happy with. obviously "paint" comes to mind first.
i talked to my friend that used to work in a body shop and he said don't try fixing it with touch up paint. it would look better leaving the scratch than trying to do the touch up/sand routine (which might also scratch the clearcoat of the surrounding area too much if you aren't a pro).
can you post a pic of the damage? that will help those with the know-how to make the best recommendations.
