Default Help me please (paint problem)

Well ive had my car for like 200 miles, and it seems i ran over some yellow line paint that was being put down. You'd think they'd put cones down so that this problem wouldn't arise, but i guess not. Now its my problem to deal with and the paint is all along the bottom of both doors, and in all 4 wheel wells. It wont come off, and ive tried a bunch of diff ways to get it off... If any1 has any suggestions to get this stuff of, it would be greatly appreciated..

If you dont understand what im talking about, i can get pic's. Thanks in advance.

I tried paint thinner on the inside of the wheel wells, and it didnt do a thing. But, when i scrape at it i can get it off a little, but i dont want to scratch up the wheel wells nor the paint obviously. So im stuck in a bad situation, ill check out that clay bar though.. thanks...

clay bar = paint overspray removal master!

the road paint is the same thing as overspray, paint on top of paint. a few quick wipes and it all will come off. please do the paint first and then the wheel wells. afterwards you HAVE to throw the bar away.

The same thing happened to me last fall. Clay bar didn't do anything. What I ended up doing was going over the heavy spots with 2000 grit wet sandpaper, followed by a rubbing compound, followed by several applications of ScratchX, followed by a couple of applications of polish, followed by wax. It was a lot of work and my arm and wrist hurt for several days afterwards, but now you can't tell it was there at all.

Here are a few "before" pictures:

I'm moving to the maintenance and car care forum. Hopefully you'll get some more replies.

Clay bar won't help with this stuff. I had some on my truck and to remove it took some work. You have to work small spots with a can of carb cleaner and paper towel. It will come off without hurting the paint but you have to work it and only do small spots at a time. Then re-wax the area after it is all removed. You can also use your finger nail to help loosen the yellow stuff while it's wet with the carb cleaner.
Please do not resort to using sandpaper. There is no need for that drastic of a step.

i think you should go report the problem to the city or whatever their technical name is and complain about it. tell them that there were no signs showing wet paint, no road blocks, no cones or anything. take pictures of your car and show them that paint got on it. save all your receipts to all the products you bought and ask them for a refund.. and more!!! tell them you want money or you want the paint off!

Yeah--they usually cone off the areas until the paint drys. It is a special paint used for streets--I sure would complain to the people responsible for the road. I bet who did it was contracted by someone and could be made to make good on the deal.

Ordered all new wheel wells and ran me $150. If it wasnt a brand new car i wudnt care but i mean it was only a few days old when this happens. It sucks to shell out 150 on this tho, especially wen i paid for the car myself and everything for it, except insurance. I would rather have spend it on some mods and stuff. Whatever tho, but im definatley going to attempt to go and see what I can do with the town.

Did you check with your insurance? They may cover all the damage and tract down and make the right people pay.

you should go complain/tell them ASAP. the sooner the better.. but if their was no signs, or any sort of a warning than they are 100% at fault. my dad works on the road and he told me that their has to be so many signs and cones and all that stuff so far before... you can deffinetly get it fixed by them... if not just mention a law suit and they will fold
