IMPORTANT: any toyota TECH's on the boards?!?!?!
i heard that there are toyota techs on these boards and i am in desperate need of your help. i need to know if taking off my valve cover will void my warranty if i have a bent valve due possibly to "abuse" aka over revving. also, if i ran 15lbs or nitrous through the car, is it possible to detect it? please refer to https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=53793 for detailed info. thanks a lot
Let's start at the beginning. Stock motor with nitrous probably a 50 shot right. Are you running the best gas you can afford? Did you have upgraded fuel magement? I.E bigger gas lines, higher volume pump. Did the CEL come on after a run with the juice? It started missing and the CEL was on so you took it to the dealer and it had P0301? Any other codes? THere's alot up in the air. They thing you overreved it which you may have done since you have a stick. You can always take the tear down hit and not do the rest of the work. They might warrenty the job just make sure that no solenoids or lines or anything that can tie into abuse can be used agaist you cause it will. The valve cover, they're worried that you tried to mess with cam timing or valve lash. If you have any more info let me know.
Nothing you do allows Toyota to flat out void your warranty.
Toyota has to PROVE that something YOU did caused a problem before they can deny coverage.
Example: If you take off your valve cover because you bent a valve and suddenly your radio stops working, Toyota cannot deny coverage on that unless they can PROVE that something YOU did cause the radio to fail.
They can't even deny you coverage on that bent valve unless they prove something YOU did, outside of normal use, caused the problem.
However, if you were using NO2 and/or redlining it, that would probably qualify as abuse.
Check this out, you should know your rights:

Click on the Magnusson-Moss Act part, specifically.
This is the federal law that protects you as a consumer and warranty holder.

I would think the $900 is to pull the head off more then just taking your valve cover off.
If they find the intake manifold with rounded bolt, this will give them a signal that the intake was taken off before, or if the intake pipe has a hole in it for the NOS. If you took ur valve cover off, and they find out (the little white paint that marks the bolts), then they might void your warranty due to potentially dropping something inside to cause the bent valve, or something stupid.
I think that you shouldn't waste your time, and to prevent yourself lossing your warranty and future uses of your warranty to get yourself a new head to put onto your xb. Or sending your head out to get built would be an ideal too.
