Default just pulled a stupid move!

I was rolling to a stop in front of my house and for some unknown, dumbass reason put it in reverse before I came to a complete stop.

There was a real nasty grinding sound and needless to say, I felt like a moron.

I was going extremely slow and it was only for a second. Could I have majorly screwed up my transmission? It seems to drive ok, but now I'm paranoid.

on a previous car of mine, my girlfriend at the time hit accidently hit the shifter (AT) into reverse when i was going 65! It was pretty scary, but I quickly shifted back into D and never had a problem with it. I say you're probably in the clear.

Thanks guys.

I feel a little better about it.

It will just take some time for the emotional scars to heal.

the tranny will try to shift... but the reverse gears are straight cut and don't sync up well while moving...
the grinding was minimal (on the sides of the gears)
you should be ok...
i would change the tranny fluid to be safe....

you'll be ok...i actually did it once when i was rolling backward out of a slanted driveway. i wasn't rolling fast enough in neutral, so i put it in reverse and it grinded for a half second, no biggie. also, watch when you put it in reverse, make sure you have the stick all the way back. the first time i tried to reverse the car, i didn't have it in gear all the way and the engine would rev but the car wouldn't move, it sorta had a grinding noise. i'm not worried about it.
my dad grinded third gear for a half second, sounded horrible.
i'm so happy that they put retard guards on the tranny. like they won't let you put it in first if your over i think 15 mph. you can't put it in first or reverse with pressing in the clutch...

what was that like when she put it in reverse at 65? my buddys old car didn't have any locks on the tranny, so, you didn't have to press the brake or even have the key in the iginition to change gears (replacement automatic). he was on the freeway at about 80 and i bumped it into neutral...no big deal, but we were like, what if i hit it a little harder?
