well my car has 4,900 miles on it and i havn't gotten the oil changed yet. the maintence recquired light has come on for the past week, maybe i should do something about this...........

 

I remember dealer told me tocome back every 5,000 miles to change oil!

But I used to change my oil every 3,000 miles, my friends recommended that too! So I dont know

 

yeah i always did 3k but i kept reading on these forums that the manual said 5k for the tC and i trusted that, so im just hoping my engine hasn't suffered any damage. im going to take it in tomorrow hopefully.

 

I do 3k and its cheap insurance if you are hard on your car and once it gets old in a few years. Its probably only like 1 extra oil change a year so its not gonna break you even if you are poor like me.

 

YES! the same thing happened to me. the maintenance light comes on at 5k. go get your oil change.

 

i got it changed today! they just called and said it was ready.

 

the maintenence required light comes on at intervals to remind you to change your oil. When the dealer changes the oil they'll reset the light.
You can also set it to go off at a mileage different from every 5k. I can't remember how exactly, so do a search.

Its just a reminder, it really doesn't warn you of any impending danger to your car.
