Default Mobile 1 unavailable ?!?!

I have always used mobil 1 with pretty good results although I have always put in 5w-20 due to the 0w-20 being harder to find. However I recently been informed that the 0w-20 actually gets better mileage. Either way I cant get my usual stuff so am asking what is evryone else using and do you really think 0w-20 makes THAT much of a difference I drive my TC like I stole it w/o any issues except tires every 30k and I get 26mpg usually If I baby it or on long trips I have gotten 29 to 30 mpg this with the 5w-20. So what do you all think?

stick with the manufacturer recommended oil viscosity, and i use mobil 1 mainly because it is what every garage i go to offers for synthetic oil changes.

I use RP in all my cars, with M1 being my second choice. Technically, RP is closer to a true synthetic oil than M1 is last I read.

Why wouldn't you use the factory spec 5W-30, unless you live in an adverse climate (Alaska, Vegas, etc)?

Default Factory spec??

I'm not exactly sure but I think "factory spec" is like 0w-20 or like 5w-20 cant remeber basically brown water. Either way I think people switch up because of availablity.

I guess I can only speak to the 2005 tC, which is 5W-30.

they say that the thinner oil saves on gas. Its a little arder to find w/ mobile one I think its a green cap. I was olny able to find it at an auto parts store by the quart. I havent noticed a good enough difference to justify the greater cost of the oil which IS harder to find. Not impossible but harder to find. I think I'm just gonna go back to the heavier synthetic you can buy in a gallon jug its considerably cheaper and works fine. Back when the thread started Mobil ONE was harder to find. I had heard there was a shortage on an ingredient they used. I havent had to change my oil since then so I'm not sure if its restocked at the discount stores now (Wal-Mart).

Pennzoil Platinum 0W20 for me. My oil analysis shows lower than average wear across the board. Very good oil.

I know folks that run amsoil, chance the filter every 5K miles, and only change the oil every 15K. No horror stories yet.....

i hope their topping of the oil when they change the filter.

15k is a bit of a stretch. the most im willing to go is about 8k miles. is it me or the engine feels sluggish on old oil?

Yeah, seems like a stretch to me too. Maybe it's my imagination, but it never seems to run better than when the oil is fresh.
