my XB died beware engine horror story
Last nigt, on the interstate about to exit my Xb killed so me and my brother push it to the side or the highway. we try to crank it but nothing happens ,so I pop the hood and check it out we the lights works fine the radio plays great so we figure its not the battery but we call for a jump any way and still nothing happens. Soon my brother relizes that something is smoking by the battery so I look and relize its coming from the air box. so I undo the top clamp on the air box and it bellows smoke. I threw no warning lights or even ran hot. I took the box to my lolcal toyota dealer about 3 weeks to a month ago and told them that it was missing and the exust sounds funny they took the box in the back and said that the computer said there was no problem and told me maybe the oil from my k/n style air filter got on the mas air flo sensor and that the engine was trying compensate. By the was i also herd what sounded like and exhaust leak or the lifters tapping so every one be where if you have any of these problems. It'll be towed to toyota in the morning.
Go back to the stock air box and every thing BEFORE you go to the dealership. And DO NOT go to the same dealership that told you the K&N could have caused the issue. Yes, I know they have to prove it and such, but that's going to take awhile.
BTW, is this an auto or manual tranny?

Yeah, but the dealer will probably hassle him and such.
urban_assault xb, whatever the service guy or manager states make sure you have it written down, make sure they sign it and date it, whether you go back to stock or stay with the set-up.

Well I talked to toyota yesterday and had them tow the box. When I called them about 3 hours later the guy I talked to seemed very intrested and Said he was holding one of my spark plugs in his hand and want to know what happend before it stoped. after I told him what happen he said that one of the pistons deffently hit the spark plug and that the engine was gone my car only has 6,000 miles on it so they haad to take a snap shot from the computer to make sure it wasn't over reved or something I did recently to make it brake. I just drove the car from Houston a 4 hour drive like 2 weeks ago with no problems at all. Any way he said it was in toyotas hands. after looking further the said they were taking care of it, they had were ordering the short block and it would be at least a week.
Yes I took of the in take but I spoke with the guy over the scion sales and he has been working at the dealer for years and they sell the most scion in my state and he said unless they can prove the part you add lead to the problem they have 2 fix it . But I have to call and get an up date on the progress so I 'll let you guys and women know whats up later.
no they told me that I wasn't able to get a rental so I'm stuck driving my girfriend civic with lambo doors and air bags with dolphin graphics the cars drives like a boat , its just not my XB.
i was reading in the scion manual that came with my xB and in the back it states that if your scion has to be in the shop over nite for repairs that will take more then a day your entitled to a loaner while it is getting fixed. Check in the back of your manual or if someone else can, since I don't have mine on me right now. I saw it in the back under warranty repairs I believe. Sorry to hear about your car, I notice my xB at stops sounds like the lifters are making alot of noise enough that I can hear them in the car. Does anyone know if this is normal.
I'm should get my Box back today but they been saying that for about 3 days now. they have had the car for 2 weeks and a day today so hopefully I can get it back and hopefully this new engine last longer
yup, they have to give you a rental. i had my box at longo for the tsb on the air, and they kept it overnight and gave me a new corolla for a rental! BTW corollas are peices of crap compared to the fit and finish of our cars
they said unless I have extended coveraqe they couldn't give me a rental at all and if they did it wouldn't be for more than 5 days. Besides they still have my BOX. monday the 7-5-04 started the 4 week its been there. Get this they said a valve wasn't seating right and that its was bent so I can completely understand, So they ordered one they put it in. now they said when they were putting it back together that 2 of the exust valve didn't seat and were bent. So they should have check all of the vavles . I have payed 325.00 insurance and 305.00 car note and I haven't even seen my car in a month. If someone from toyota reads this I getting very unsatisified with the service but I still love the car some one needs to do something. Lastly they said there are no parts for the engine that has been coming in the echo for how long, then they had to put a trace on the parts they said they ordered and won't be until wensday. :?
You should call the Scion corporate office, and inform them of the situation, and how you got denied a loaner. The only reason to not give you a loaner (that I can think of) is that maybe your under 21 or under 18?? When I spoke to the dealer I ordered by box from, they said ANY overnight stuff gets a loaner.
I think the reason you didn't get a loaner is because your underage. If you're over 18 then you should definitely get a loaner. Next time, don't let them give you that crap. If they do then just call Scion corporate like the other guy said. On a side not, and I'm sure everyone who reads this is thinking the same thing. Where did you learn how to type boy? If you old enough to drive you must learn how to phrase your sentences better. I have to read everything of yours 2-3 times before I can understand you. Not to be a *****, but you guys know I right.
