Default Oil?

Did a search but, as is often the problem, I came up with too many results to trudge through.

First question: What is Toyota Oil?

Second question: What is everyone using for oil and filters?

I'm coming up on my first oil change and need to know what is the best way to go.

Weight wasn't really my question. I was really wondering type since not all oil and not all oil filters are created equal.

I like the bosch filter for my and my wife's xB. The filter is well made. For oil I use mobil 1. It is high quality synthetic (many companies recomend it as oem) and you can get it EVERYWHERE.

Thanks for the replies.

i use M1 synthetic oil + filter also... but i think starting on my next change i'm going to switch to a K+N filter. they have that really nice nut on the bottom of the filter that makes taking the filter off really easy.

Just changed my oil for the first time... since my dealer will be changing it again in about 2000 miles anyway, I bought the $1.68/qt Discount Auto Parts 5w20 oil. If you're just buying dino oil, it doesn't really matter what you get. It's only once you get to the synthetics that you start getting actual choices that mean something.

I did, however, use the Toyota filter. They wanted $7 for one! I just bought two... because they had a special... 2 for $10.

I want to use synthetic exclusively, which is what I used on my Kia Sedona (How do you double the value of a Sedona?)...

Why is the Toyota filter better than the K&N? Aren't the quality filters pretty much created equal? Obviously, junk like Fram isn't counted as quality.

X2 exactly right! every 5K. Toyota filters are cheaper than the fancy overpriced K&N oil filters but work just as good for out application.

Not sure why people are advising you to use any weight but the recommended 5-30. That is what should be used. Lots of threads out there on this issue. Most agree the Toyota filter is the way to go.
