Default Oil changes.

When i go to the dealership for my oil changes (free ones) they always put the next change at like 3000 miles, doesnt it say in the manual to change at 5k ?

Wondering if you guys ran across this .

Generally the techs put the sticker at 3K because thats the "industry standard" and they don't always know better. Plus it can get people to change their oil sooner meaning more money for the dealer.

is it true that you have to use the courtsy oil change (3times for me) by certain date? say by 12000 miles or within first 16 months whichever comes first ?

i wasnt told about this when i bought my card and when i took it down to the dealership for oil change, thats what i was told, that true ?

maybe its just my dealership...when i found out that my free oil change has expired on me, i told the guy i would take my car with me and leave...so when they took my car out, i just found out that the a/c was turned to the MAX!!! WTF, i asked for an oil change, not for a/c check up. all these happened within 5mins after i dropped off the car, found out about the expired oil change and pick up my car and they were alreay messin around with my a/c

maybe its just my dealership

the original deal was three free oil changes, good for redemption anytime during the 3 year/36k mile bumper to bumper warranty.

i know this because i got several reminders to do this from the scion dealership i bought my car from. they only did one of my free oil changes, one was done at a toyota dealership near my college (back when scion just came out, they had no clue that toyota even made that car) and another one done while i was living in florida.

after i used those three free ones, i started using synthetic oil, and my dealership kept sendng me reiminders that i had two free changes left, but i wasn't interested in going back to regular oil.
