Default Oil Filter

I've just switch to Mobil1 and am using the mobil1 oil filter (M1-103).

If you have synthetic, what filters are you using...?

I bought an arm full of oil filters that I intend to cut up after
each one gets used.

I have a Mobile one, and an STP (USA made) they appear to
be exactly the same!!!

I also have some more inexpensive ones (Also from Autozone)
made in Mexico that visually seem to also be just like the
Mobile 1 and STP.

I've also picked up a Purolator Pure One, Toyota USA made,
Toyota Japan made (Denso), and the TRD oil filter.

Visual inspection and just feel (weight, quality of built etc)
make me feel very comfortable with the TRD and Toyota
Japan. Online reviews and tests show the Mobile 1 to be
pretty consistantly on top.

I'll post photos and thoughts as I go through my tests, which
should take the rest of the year unfortunatly.

Speaking of which, does anyone know where I can get the tool
I need to cut open oil filters? I'm looking for the one that works
like a can opener, because I don't want my dremel dust to
throw off what I find INSIDE the filters.

More to come later.

Probably a band saw would work well. I think any can opener type thing would make a mess of the filter.

Here are some, Raven...

http://www.cancutter.com/

http://www.aircraftspruce.com/menus/...ltertools.html
http://www.racerpartswholesale.com/spgtest.htm (decent price)
http://www.tavia.com/cat13.html

There are LOTS of them out there at all sorts of prices. Try a Google of oil filter cutter (an image search of that is interesting, too...).

(Or make your own... the Schmidt design could be whipped up easily out of spare parts and a replacement cutter wheel...)

I used the Toyota filter as they give it to me free when I get the free oil change, but I provide the Amsoil instead.
