Questions about jacking up a car.
1. How do properly lower a car that's on a floor jack? When I release the valve on mine, my car went down pretty fast. Definitely too fast to place on jack stands. How can I control the speed at which my floor jack lowers my car? Should I just buy a better floor jack?
2. What are the steps for jacking up all four corners of a car?
3. When raising the rear axle only, what gear do you put the tranny in? I have a manual btw.
Thanks

Are you talking about any car or the xB? The xB is different from any car I ever had in the past 50 years. Assuming you mean xB:
1. Release the valve very slowly so the car settles gradually. However, on an xB, only use a floor jack on the central jack points shown in the manual.
2. For the xB, jack the front or rear using a floor jack on the central point, then put jack stands at the rocker panel jack points. Then jack the other end on its central jack point, and put jack stands under that end's rocker panel jacking points.
3. When raising the rear, put the trans in either 1st or reverse.
To raise my xB, I would not use my floor jack. To add to the xB's own jack I have bought three Honda Civic jacks out of junked cars. I would place one of these jacks at each jacking point and crank up the whole car a few turns at a time. No jackstands.
The problem with little jacks + jackstands is there are not enough jacking points to accomodate 8 of them. If you jack the car up at a jacking point, you must put the jackstand on another part of the body or a suspension member, not made to take the weight.
Most people are used to putting jacks and jackstands under suspension members. Do that on a xB and the member will bend and cause mislignment.

Where not to jack or support an xB:
1. Under the middle of the side rails.
2. Under rear suspension torsion beam.
1. Under the middle of the side rails.

"... DO NOT jack from the middle (between both doors). It will kink or dent that rail slightly..."
"What ever you do, DON'T PUT IT UNDER THE REAR AXLE (beam)!!!!! I've seen an idoit did this on an Echo (Echo, xA, and xB uses the same suspension set up), and ended up beding the thing in the center."
"... That 'thing' in the rear, between the wheels, is not an 'axle' but a formed sheetmetal suspension member. Bending it or deforming it in any way can affect rear-end alignment, which is non-adjustable... "
