I wouldn't throw them in the washer or dryer. I use a carpet cleaner on mine.

A washer would not help .. you need to do more than just soak them in water. Manual labor would be best, or rent a steam cleaner or something of the sort to wash them, then let them air dry. I doubt your dryer would melt them, but it would make some awful noise as they tumble around potentially damaging your dryer.

Washer won't really work, unless it's a BIG machine... They're too thick to be washed by the agitators in the machine, they'll kinda just sit in the water. You could always try it though... Best way I've found is to just beat the hell out of 'em, brush off all of the loose stuff, then one of use those carpet "spot cleaner" cans with the brush on top and scrub the whole thing down.

This is why I buy cheap(easy to replace) mats to go over the factory ones.

You can rent the upholstery attachment and rug doctor at most grocery stores, works very well.

lay them on the ground. spray with carpet cleaner, scrub with stiff brush, hose off and hang to dry.. good as new. DO NOT MACHINE WASH OR DRY....they will curl and deform from the heat..

I have washed many mats in the washing machine with no problems. Drying them in a dryer is a different situation--THAT will curl them. I have used cold water and delicate cycle and gotten mats clean.
