Default Rubber Preservative

Anyone using anything to preserve the various rubber pieces (aside from the tires) on your Scion? If so, what's good? I've heard good things about Zymol.

(Sorry if this has been discussed before. I searched but came up with over 3,600 results, which are too many to sort through.)

spray silicone works to preserve weather strip and bushings etc.. it keeps them from dry rotting and water proofs, if thats what your asking or are you going for shine. zymol has car kits that go up to aroud $450, they got some high end products as well as lower priced ones. i like thier products

Thanks for the replies. I want to avoid dry rot. I'm not too worried about shine, though it tends to be a nice by-product.

Um. Silicones will actually work to aide the dry-rotting process if not applied continually. Once you start, you have to keep using it or you will dry out the stuff you're trying to protect.

Bob is the Oil Guy thread...

When I was in the USAF we used (IIRC) Mil-P-11520F. It worked well, but I suspect there should be better stuff out by now.

303 aerospace protectant. You can pick it up at any boat/marine shop, or order through NAPA.

This stuff dominates.

I am not an expert on silicone, I just know what I read online. Here is one such article:

There are good and bad silicones. I'd just rather avoid them all.

+1. Doesn't last the longest on exterior trim, but it does its job well enough.
