Default RUST!!!!!!!!!!!

What the hell! I have RUST!

How does the Rust warranty cover something like this?

There is a small rock chip on my front fender, it happened maybe a week ago, and now it's rusted!

I know that open wounds will rust fairly quickly. . . but not this fast! Does anybody know if the rust/paint warranty will do anything for me? Heh. . . not like it's a hard fix, but it would be nice to have someone else do it.

I work at a dealership and I hate to be the one to tell you this BUT a rock chip isn't covered cause it isn't a defect in the paint. For it to be coverd, it would need to "bubble" from underneath the paint, which is a sign of a schitty paint job. Take it to a body shop ASAP before the rust starts to "eat" the metal.

I had dozens of rock chips on my Lexus, and they never rusted, despite never being touched up (for years).

It all has to do with how hard and deep the chip was. The sheet metal is zinc treated to resist rust, but if you go deep enough with the chip, or something else gets in there (salt, bird doody, etc) you'll get rust in as little as a day.

If you don't want to touch it up just yet, at least get some wax on the car so it at least has one line of defense before it gets down to bare metal.

That explains it. . . I guess all my previous cars have had thicker sheet metal, thus providing a thicker line of defense.
