Default stupid me or stupid alternator?

All I can say is I'm baffled and completely stunned at how tightly secured the 22mm nut on the alternator pulley is. I looked through some pulley install walkthrough thread to see some joker talkin bout tying a towel around the pulley to help hold it while someone else loosenes the nut with a socket. I don't think so! I secured mine in a vice only to have it rotate right out every time. So I flipped the grips around to use teeth and what happens? Fricken nut spins the shaft its on right through the pulley. So now the pulley that is under the pressure of the nut is slipping. Crazy right. I thought so. Anyone got any practical idea's. I was just trying to switch out the stock pulley with my new NST alt pulley.

are you sure that it isn't a reverse thread?

not really, but I'm sure of the way the nut comes off because I can see the threads and which way they rise.

that's what I was using and with a cheater bar just to make it easier. but like I said, within the clench of the vise on the pulley, the bolt was spinning. only thing left to do is lock the bolt and turn the nut, but I don't have access with the pulley in the way. :/
