Default Synthetic Oils

AMSOIL vs Mobil 1

which is better? I read an article on it and it said that AMSOIL outperforms Mobil 1 by quite a margin and I was thinking of buying AMSOIL instead of Mobil 1 and AMSOIL said that you dont have to change your oil for 25000 miles or 1 year intervals, and that is a guarentee !!! help haha =D

should i buy 5w-30 or 10w-30?

I have a 2005 tC and run AMSOIL 5W-30 every 5000 miles.

Since my first change at 5000 miles I have used AMSOIL, I'm now at about 35000 and my engine burns little or no oil and I feel pretty confident with AMSOIL.

However, no way in hell would I run the same oil for a year or for 25000 miles.

If you do decided to go with AMSOIL, I would suggest ordering it off the website in bulk and sign up for the preferred customer program. You'll get a good discount.

If you change your oil every 3-5k.. it doesn't matter if you have amsoil, mobil 1, castrol syntec, or any synthetic/synthetic blend.

Mobil 1 evidently changed their base oil, and it is no longer a "true" synthetic... There is a huge debate over on the forums of bobistheoilguy.com go check it out for yourself.

Honestly it doesn't matter, if you want to spend more money then spend it and get Amsoil.

I now use Castrol Syntec 5w-20 with Toyota filters, and I intend on changing it every 3-4k miles.

If your tc is 2006+, the oil is now 5w-20 btw.

Just change over to Mobil 1 after the first 1K. Then change it every 5K with a Toyota filter after that. This is what I'm doing and plan on 300K or more out of mine. Should be no problem.
