Default tC hatch not latching

So I was packing up my trunk area for a trip to California for Thanksgiving on Thursday morning, and I tried to close my trunk, but it wouldn't latch.

Nothing was blocking it's pathway...and I only put one small suitcase in the trunk...so it wasn't that. My step dad somehow fixed it by popping open the little panel underneath the hatch.

Anyway, could this be an electrical problem? My friend said something about the Mazda 3 having a problem kinda like this, and they had a service bulliten about it. I was just wondering if I'm the only person who had this problem or not.

Yeah...see...I knew I wasn't going to be the only one with this problem. I live in Vegas...where it's mild during the winter.

Anyway, I already took the car into the dealership, and they worked on it, but apparently they didn't fix it.

I'm dropping my car off Friday night and they are going to work with it over night or something, so I'll let you all know what's going on with it.

(I just read a crap load of new topics about the same thing that I posted about a few months ago)

nope...never hit whatsoever.

seems to only happen in the cold, and I'm not the only person who says that.

it starts latching after messing with it (messing with it warms it up), but I don't have the time to sit there and play with it before I head out to work or school.

Had the same problem!

Apparently the latching mechanism needs some lubrication. Doesnt seem to be electrical though. I had the techs work on it when i dropped my car off, wish I probed some more to the root of the problem. But hey it works now!

If ur gonna lube it urself just be carefull not to get any oil on ur paint or to put too much in there so it wont dribble out.

It is related to the cold. Now that it is getting cold here in SC we had 2 tC's come in with the same problem on one of our bitterly cold, 30 degree, mornings. Easiest fix is to just warm up the latch... even the heat from a lighter will work.

Actually, my dealership ordered me a new latching mech. I'll get it put in as soon as I have the time to get there for an appointment.

Personally, I don't have the time to sit and warm up my latch...especially when I have a nice little thing such as a Warranty on it.

I have the same problem. I live in Denver, and when it's cold, my trunk won't latch. It usually has to be below freezing for this to happen. My car is garaged. I just don't open the trunk outside when it's cold. However, if Scion is willing to replace the latch, I will try to go that route.

Default Trunk not latching in cold weather

I'm having the same problem, also in the cold. I've had the dealership look at it 3 different times, dropped it off overnight once, all with no results, because they can't replicate the problem. Of course, they're not looking at it at 5:00 AM, when I have the issue, and where I live (Maryland) it rarely stays cold enough to cause the problem by they time the look at it (8:00 or later). Has anyone had any luck getting their lock replaced? Scion Customer Service claims that no dealership has duplicated a similar problem. I can't believe they're giving me the runaround about a $300 part.
