I use 3 different things...one is Mothers Back to Black, A very water diluted Simple Green and a Hand Degreaser(don't ask why but had this habit for awhile with my CRX) If any of what I use it bad for my car lemme know.

Hope this helps,
Hubert

I have been using Simple Green and a garden hose for ever. Get the engine wet, soak it with the S.G. and then use a long handle brush to cut the grit. Rinse with hose. I NEVER USE A PRESSURE WASHER TO WASH THE ENGINE. I have heard too many horror stories from other NEON owners at my neon site, from people who used pressure washers. Water gets forced into places its not supposed to be, and then you have all kinds of electrical problems. True, and engine can get wet, but using a pressure washer forces water in, and then you have problems like your car wont start, or wont stay running, etc. Just use a garden hose, and you be all right. IMO

I use Simple Green for everything, including my cleaning business. I have never had any problems with it at all, anywhere. Its all natural, and bio-digradable, and rinses off real easy. I have never had any etching/pitting under the hood from using Simple Green.
