various annoying sounds.
my xb has about 17000 miles on it and i'm wondering if anyone has had any of these problems. there is an extremely annoying rattle that comes from what sounds like under the dash behind the steering wheel when i'm going over 30 mph. also from the wheels there is a squeaking or squealing which happens as the wheels spin. its not the brakes and i inspected everything very closely. i'm taking it to the shop this week but figured i would ask first. thanks
i have the same sound that comes for my wheels too. strange. im taking it to the dealer monday to get it looked at. the sound only happens above 20 mph and gets worse the faster the wheels spin, and i know it isnt the brakes. if you find out what it is before monday let me know.
I finally found my most annoying rattle and fixed it.
I had to take the front bumper off to remove the headlights and while I had the bumper off I found a cheap piece of plastic that acts as a water shield for the top of the radiator. It basically just "snaps" to the metal frame and every time I touched it it rattled like crazy. I used e-tape to tighten it down and stop the noise.
This is the rattle I would hear coming from under the hood but could never pinpoint. You guys might want to tackle this one on your next day off.
What sucks is, most of car is "snapped" together with cheap plastic parts, so eliminating all rattles is impossible. They saved a lot of money by cutting down on screws and bolts.
So far I've Dynamatted the entire hatch area, wedged tons of those little rubber stickers between stuff, and used electrical tape to tighten stuff down, and I STILL get rattles...
