With regular/careful maintenance by washing all microfibers separately from lint-producing fabrics, you should be able to get 1-2 detailing seasons out of your microfiber towels.

After use, wash them in warm water with liquid laundry detergent to remove all residues and oils from the fabrics. During the cool water rinse cycle, add 1 Tablespoon distilled white vinegar to the rinse water for each item. This helps to remove all the soap suds from the fibers while also acting as the fabric softener. To dry, simply line dry or cool dryer setting. This will also reduce the static cling. Do NOT use fabric softener sheets in the dryer.

Monitor the wear on the nap of the microfiber cloth/mitts. If it starts matting down, becoming thin in spots, or just not removing polish or wax residue from the surface very well, it could be time to replace the microfiber.

Agreed, I bought a pack from costco as well never have a problem with scatching, These work better then the ones from wal mart IMO. But i always make sure to tear the little tag off just in case your drying, that might scratch it.

What's wrong with just throwing it in with the rest of the laundry basket?

You can throw them with the rest of the laundry just don't wash them with the other laundy. You shouldnt use Fabric softener or dryer sheets when cleaning your Microfiber or any drying stuff for your car, because it will leave the grease from the softener on your car/windows. So just wash them with normal detergant and dry them alone.

To clarify, do NOT wash your microfiber items with other lint producing fabrics.

The lint will attach to the microfiber fabric like a magnet.

I guess this was just me, but for some reason, the Costco brand microfiber towels left TONS of fine small hairs all over my car/windows..took a while to get them out after several car washes.
