what exactly is detailing
I've never actually used one but from what I've seen and heard it depends on what services you request. Most, at least around here will do a wash and quick clean up for around $15 - $20 and that's good for the average person or just not having to do it yourself. The price will go up depending on whether you want it buffed, waxed, shampooed, and whatever other details a place offers. Just be sure you know exactly what they are going to do to your car. There's a place in Florence, SC that will wash, shampoo, and wax for around $80 ( I think) but that's running the car through and automatic washer. My box has and will only be hand washed.
"detailing" is a complete clean/wash/vaccum/dusting...of your entire vehicle..the cost usually is determined by what services are requested.....it can get very expensive but some of the methods of cleaning and the attnetion to detail are what set it apart from a regular wash.
detailing shops can range in price: $30~$200
The detailing place down my street charges $200 hand washing/polishing/waxing everything, but their clientele are generally very wealthy drivers (e.g. vipers, AMGs, carreras, etc.). I never see any minivans or economy cars there when I drive by from work.
The job detailers do is more thorough than a standard car wash, but nothing more than a disciplined person couldn't handle doing weekly. A little goes a long way each week when you clean your car inside and out.
Honestly, pocket that money and learn how to detail on your own. It'll take an initial investment of prolly $50 in cleaning supplies and materials, but it's a gratifying experience and just more fun doing it yourself!
