When did you get your first oil change?
I hit 500 miles today.
So after work, I drove over to a local Toyota/Scion dealer and had them change my oil.
The service manager looked at me funny when he saw I only had 500 miles on the car.
He said, "You know your car isn't due for an oil change until 5,000 miles right?"
I replied, "Yeah, I know. Just do it anyway"
Glad to get all that factory oil out of there. It probably had little metal particles from the break-in process.
I used the Scion complimentary oil change coupon, so it was completely FREE. I even saved the factory oil filter (I'm gonna cut it open later). :p

The first place I went to was the dealer I bought the car from. I had them do it when they installed the lo-jack. I will never go back to that dealer again. When they installed the lo-jack the scratched the inside of my car.
3,000 miles. That is 2,000 miles short of recommended. I have since changed it at 3k for the next two. When I hit 12k in a few weeks I am going to Mobil 1 synthetic with the YO filters. I got the first three free from the dealer.

There are myths about changing your oil to synthetic right
away, or at high mileage being bad, but they are just myths.
Many cars are coming with full synthetic motor oil right from
the factory!!
Read up on Mobil 1 web page.

The persisting myth is that synthetic won’t let the rings seat and other components to burnish. In the old days (model-T, model-A) people used special break-in oil that was very thin so that all the parts would rub themselves into place. This was because old manufacturing techniques left machining marks that had to be “polished” off. Post WWII people would still “run-in” the engines but just use normal oil changed frequently. The manufacturers now claim that there is no need to break in an engine. Why don’t I believe them? Because they all admit that a vehicle won’t get the best MPG for the first 1500 miles or so. I changed at 750 and 1500 and now am changing every 3000. I’ll change to synthetic at 15,000 but still change every 4,000 miles. True that synthetic doesn’t break down as fast and has better molecular integrity. That doesn’t change the contaminants and acids which collect in the oil.
I had no problem mentally in shifting my xB to a synthetic at only 2500 miles. Modern engines DO have a break-in period, just like old ones, but the machining and finishing in the better ones these days (and that certainly includes Toyota) means that is more a "burnishing" of the surfaces rather than "grinding" them down to fit...
That means that a very good lubricant that prevents 'grinding' works best for modern engines.
The difference in grinding and burnishing can be seen in how a person who appreciates fine cutlery will burnish (polish) the cutting edge of their cooking knives before each use (I do) with a "steel" that reshapes and polishes rather than taking metal off, while those with cheap knives wait 'til they are too dull to work well and then "sharpen" them by grinding metal off...
(And yes, if one were crazy enough one could shave with my favorite, my 8" Henckels Pro S Chef http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg, but don't try it if I'm around - I don't loan 'em to anyone.

My xA: 1st change at 600 miles. Every 3,000 after that.
Wife's xB: 1st change at 1,000 miles. Every 3,000 after that.
Both vehicles use whatever oil and filter the Toyota serice department puts in. I assume they use what's best for the car.

I did my first oil change in the tC @ the 5k interval.....I should have known better.
Theoretically the filter should have picke dup any shavings floating around.........but in a new engine who knows....
anyone think thi snegatively effected my engine?
