Default Will a Carbon Fiber Hood chip?

OK, so I didn't put the washer lights on my hood. I'm thinking about getting a CF Hood. I have a bra but because of days
that I keep it off the front of my hood is pretty chipped up.

Will Carbon Fiber be any better?

CF hoods will chip if it gets hits, it's just like a normal hood. It is pretty strong though.

Well... Yea I imagine, because the CF Weave is what makes the effect... and on top of the weave is like this hardened resin that they clear coat.
So if it did chip it would be harder to see then on paint

I don't know that it will chip very easily, but it might shatter.

Edit: Why is this in PPC?

the resin is harder than paint, but it'll still chip. if it does chip though, depending on how bad it is, you can sand/buff it out yourself without having to deal w/paint.

Hmm.. depending on how thick the resin is, i have seen chips that feathered out under the top layer of resin like you will see on windshield rock chips.

I'd reccomend you get your CF hood clearcoated before you mount it, if it doesn't come that way already.

I know. Rock chips suck.

it is way more likely to pit versus chip. and to crack it would be soimething big enuff to dent a regular hood

if the hood does chip it will be the clearcoat that chips. if that happens you can always get it re-cleared which is less then getting it repainted

If it chips, it will be the GELCOAT that chips. Gelcoat is the same resin used in Fibreglass. It is not noticeably stronger than a good coat of urethane paint.

Most companies these days put a clearcoat just like on a car on to Carbon Fiber parts. if not then you run into other problems.
