Default Windshield Scratches

Hi,

Any thoughts on removing scratches from auto glass ?? I do not mean real deep ones, but the kind you might get from say using a dish-washing scrubby pad to remove bug guts {S DOH..... I would NEVER have done such a thing..but a friend did...

Yes he could always replace the windshield...

Thanks in advance....

i searched your query on google and came up with this

http://www.glassonweb.com/articles/article/162/
http://www.gtglass.com/glass_scratch_remover.html
http://www.glassmechanix.com/glass-repair-systems.htm

I think you should ask a glass shop to see if they can do something. I doubt you want to buy a whole scratch remover kit

Default JC Whitney

Hi,

I also saw that JC Whitney has a kit for like $30 that includes the polishing powder/compound and a polishing pad that can be put into a power drill.

The idea about contacting a glass shop is probably worthwhile....THanx...

i talked to a good local glass shop.. guy i know told me that yes they can remove some scratches from the windshield using a buffer, but the problem is it can leave a distortion in the glass and you'll see it when you look into the distance.. so it's a catch 22..

i've found that using bon-ami cleanser (also referred to in toyota's own service bulletin about cleaning the windshield).. is what i've used and if i buff (by hand) enough i've removed a lot of the scratches.. might try that.. it'll take time but at least you can gauge the progress..

I have the same deal. Birds destroyed my car one day. So I decided to clean it off with windex and a towel. Little did I know that because I'm right near the water, the birds consume sand which meant I was rubbing sand in to the windshield along with the paint. It came right out of the paint with a wheel and some compound but nothing yet for the windshield.
