Check with your insurance agent. Most policies have a lower deductible for windshields and vandalism. Mine is $100 compared to the usual $500 for any other claims...

If you lived in FL and had comprehensive, it's FREE to get it fixed - FL law requires no deductable, and ANYTHING that happens to your windshield will get fixed for free

I have USAA, and they told me since I have comprehensive, that I won't have to pay anything out of pocket, and I live in Cali. So it all depends on your insurance.

2 Rocks hit my windshield over the weekend. One created a nice "dimple" on the windshield and the other one chipped the windshield and made a small crack. I called my insurance company and said that since I had a small incident they would not replace the windshield but repair it. Will see how it goes...BTW I didn't have to pay anything.... :D

If the crack is spontaneous then it is a warranty issue. A certain car that is often confused with a Scion had this problem because its body would flex and crack the glass by bending it. Never heard of this happening on a Scion, though.

OTOH, if you have a rock hit that turns into a crack, it is a road hazard and an issue between you and your insurance company. Toyota can't control the quality of roads!

Same thing applies if you live in Massachusetts. Good thing because the roads here suck! It's easy to have some random rock or piece of pavement hit your windshield here. After each winter, there are countless potholes in side streets and on the highway due to all the snow plows digging into the pavement.

In fact, just about a week ago a damn rock hit my windshield while I was on the highway. It made a small crack and I took it to a reputable auto glass repair/replacement company and they ended up repairing it. The cost was covered by my auto insurance.

Unfortunately, the crack seems to be getting worse, but I'll have to keep an eye on it. I just may think it's getting worse when it really isn't. The good thing is that in MA, your auto insurance will pay for the repair and, if that doesn't work, they will also pay for the replacement.

Since Scions are new, there probably aren't many aftermarket replacement windshields so if I do end up having to replace the windshield, I'll get a dealer windshield (which ordinarily would mean you would have to pay some sort of deductible because the auto insurance companies would only pay for a basic aftermarket replacement).

Ok..I've had several cars. I've never once had a cracked windshield. I have two cracks on my front windshield from normal freeway driving and one from 35 mph residential driving. What's up with that? Seriously, it sounds like alot cracked windshields out there!? Maybe it's a lower quality glass? Maybe the way it's flexed causes a predisposition for cracks. Somebody get to the bottom of this dammit!

had the xb for 10 days (120 miles) and i noticed today that there was a long crack started from the very top and ran about 6 inches. first i thought a rock has hit it but i could not feel with my finger where the crack originated. the windshield felt smooth from both exterior and interior of where the crack is. i will take it to dealer tomorrow morning to see what happened....
