Default Would it be a bad idea to switch from Mobil 1 to Motorcraft?

I'd like to switch oil brands to save a little money and I know motorcraft is a very good synth blend. Should I just stick with the mobil 1 or will I cause any problems by switching?

so long as it is a good quality brand, and the correct weight and viscosity, it shouldn't be a problem.

It's bad stuff then? My dad uses it in his lincoln ls and my brother used it in his '03 cobra. I thought it'd be somewhat decent. Maybe i'll just stick with mobil 1.

Motorcraft Synthetic Blend is a VERY good oil, and can be had at a great price at Walmarts. It constantly gets good used oil analyses at bobistheoilguy.com. I would have no hesitation using it if you're looking to go down to a semi-synthetic oil.

Ultimately though, you should do a used oil analysis yourself to see how a particular oil does in your engine.

Hope that helps.

Well I did mention they synth blend in my original post but it's cool. I just want to go to a less expensive oil if mobil 1 is overkill.

If synthetic provides someone peace of mind, then so be it.

For the average driver with a 5,000 mile oil change interval, is it overkill? Sure. Will it provide any better protection than a good dino or semi-syn oil? No.

Now, there are exceptions between specific oils, and how they might perform in your particular engine. That is why a used oil analysis by someone like Blackstone Labs isn't necessarily a bad idea.

Apples to apples, you'll be fine with a semi-synthetic oil at reasonable oil change intervals.

My 08 Xb recommends 0W-20 which I haven't found in a non-Synthetic oil yet. So I suppose it's still full-syn for me.
