Default XB Question - Dummy Light "MAINT REQD"

Never seen this on my other Xb, where all those dummy lights are located, lately when I start the car, you have the normal lights come on and then off, right below the seat belt light, the MAINT REQD light seems to flash a little more and is the last to disappear ...

Is this normal ? What is it telling me other than what is normal ?

XB has 5002 miles, driven daily and had the 1st oil change at 1003 miles.

Thanks !

It's not a big deal. A lot of new cars come with maintenance lights. Resetting should do the trick. It's comes on after about 5,000 miles. If I remember correctly if it is not reset then it will come on and stay on after 7,500 miles. Not resetting the light does nothing. Not getting your oil changed regularly will.

1. Reset the light.
2. get an oil change . . . (the shop I work at recommends every 3 months or 3,000 miles. Which ever comes first.)

You don't have to follow that but doing an oil change early never hurt anyone. Doing it late can become problematic after time. If you are worried about warranties, or general car maintenance then refer to the "maintenance schedule" book that came with the owners manual.

The maintenance light flashes on after 5000 miles from the last time it was reset. To reset it make sure the clock/odo display is on Odometer. Turn the car off. Press and hold the control wand and turn the car on (don't start it). You will see 5 bars in the display and they will dissappear one at a time. After they are all gone your maintenance light has been reset.

If you would leave it on blinking at 5,000- it comes on solid and stays at 7,500 miles.
