Default **Poll**For my research paper!

Hey everyone I'm doing a poll for my research paper and I'm needing to know how many of you believe in the death penalty for murder cases. It's just a general question. Thanks!

No that's y i said it's just a general question. I asked my sister and she was like well it depends and blah blah. I just want a basic answer. Don't over analyze it just if someone was convicted of murdering another human do you believe in the death penalty?

I picked this topic for my speech that I have to do. It had to be a persuasive/controversial topic. I thought this would be interesting, but it's actually been kinda hard. I've been to the library and online searching for books or any kind of information that is "for" the death penalty and not "against" it. It's like finding a needle in a haystack. Anyways, I figured I would take my own poll and see how it came out. So, thanks to everyone who participates.

we could be looking at an odd case up here soon; which will be spinning both sides of this argument. A man, who was wrongly convicted of rape and imprisoned for some time, was let out recently on a dna overturn ( helped by one of those groups that look into wrongful convictions ). He was innocent, so could have had the public on his side. Long story short, he is now in jail on rape/murder/dismemberment charges; a very disturbing case..... which though not in court yet seems to have plenty of "real" evidence against him.
Your topic may not always have a clear cut answer, but if I had to drop my .02; i'd say yes--with proper evidence ( dna, etc ).
For research--maybe look into states that have recently enacted the death penalty, or are thinking of doing so.... they must have had some terrible case(s) to bring the issue up in their locations... that may help...

well if this is supposed to be a pursuasive paper, why don't you state what you feel and then find evidence to support that. I really don't see how a poll with yes or no answers is going to help your pursuasive case. This is a very controversial subject that some feel very strongly about and many others could go either way depending on the circumstances. What matters the most for this paper is you taking a standpoint on it and then doing the necessary research to defend that standpoint. That's how your going to be persuasive.

Sorry, one more thing. I really don't feel that a persuasive paper has to be clear cut for or against something. You can also persuade people that there isn't a clear cut answer and that it can depend on the circumstances.

She didn't say the death penalty for ALL murder cases. If you think someone who commits grusome or violent murders should also be killed, then you believe in the death penalty. That's the way I see it anyway.

I always thought I believed in the death penalty until I was almost put on a jury in a murder trial. When you look the guy right in the eye and realize that you literally hold his life in your hands, it REALLY tests your convictions. Long story short, I'm not so sure I believe in it now. Maybe that makes me a softy, I don't know. But I challenge anyone who is so quick to say yes to the death penalty to go through that experience.

Oh btw, I was excused from the jury before the trial started, so I didn't have to go through with it.

Your exactly right! However she did not say for some or a few murder cases either. The question was How many believe in the death penalty for murder cases. I still stand by my response that it is not that simple for me to answer a question like that, so I would like the option to say maybe or possibly. Those are options too.

I personally agree and disagree. I think that there should be a such thing and that a major majority of the murderers deserve it.

However I believe the punishment should fit the crime though, I dont feel if a woman kills her husband because she defended herself against him from beating her should get the death penalty. I dont believe all murder cases are the same. As far as a serial murderer goes yes by all means that person derserves to get the chair, needle or whatever a states requirements are.

Good luck on the paper..

i was origionally for death penality and believed that ppl should be punish for their crimes.... but things changed after 2 course that i took for my major.....

it all boils down to the money issue..... it cost MORE to have someone killed than have them kept alive in a jail.... and I do believe mis-trial and misconduct from the DA.... and it is not a reversable decision once its done....

AND to my surprise, a lot of the victim's / survivors' are NOT FOR the death penality cuz it doesn't change the fact that wat had been done.....

jus my 2 cents.....

I have my few on this paper and it's "for" the death penalty, but as I stated it's hard to find any evidence that would help me in that dept. I'm doing this poll cause I thought it would be interesting to add into my speech. I've found lots of polls about the death penalty so I thought I'd conduct my own. I didn't realize I was gonna start this whole long discussion and viewpoints. I just wanted a simple yes or no that was it..lol I'm going to state my opinion at the beginning and then just basically state what I've found as far as research is concerned.
