2 IDIOTS+JUMPERCABLE=FIRE
So, I am walking out of school and going to my car and there is a firetruck at the far end of the parking lot. Apparently two morons were trying to jump a car and somehow they managed to start a fire in one of the car's engine bay (hence the firetruck). How is that possible? Would there need to be gas or oil in the engine bay for a spark to ignite? Anyway, it was a very boring day, but I chuckled when I saw those kids freaking out after the car caught fire.
The same thing happened to my buddy. If you connect the cables backwards it will spark which could in tern cause a fire. You're right, all it takes is two idiots...
Or in my buddy's case, only one.

there is a real simple explanation.....
our car batteries are lead/acid batteries, a by product of the battery is Hydrogen. it even states on the battery not to smoke or cause sparks near it. hydrogen is very explosive ( Nagasaki and Hiroshima come to mind)
just remember not to smoke or cause sparks near one and you should be safe.

Where the heck did you get 64,000 bucks from...that you could blow on something like that?! No offense but don't go buy a Z06 thats gonna be worth 45,000 in 2-3 years because of depreciation. The difference right there buys you a brand new tC. If you really want one, buy a low mileage used one 6 months from now.
Anyways, I would have laughed my butt of if I had seen that. That's quite funny. Did you get to see anyone's car blow up?

no way would I buy an older one if I had the flow to buy a new one! Do you even know the specs on a new Z06? Out of this world, it's like buying an exotic for half or even a third of the price. No disrespect to tc's but, not even is the same . . . anything (dang it! can't think of a proper analogy!)
Hey, watch the calling people stupid for starting their vehicle on fire. My motorcycle battery was dead so I jumped the battery with my car. The bad thing is, the wiring is very bad on my motorcycle....example being wires are covered in duct tape (done by the owner before me). Anyway, I didn't realize that the main power wire from the battery to the rest of the bike was simply several lengths of SPEAKER WIRE duct taped together to make one larger wire. Well, needless to say, when you are trying to send a lot of power through such wonderfully engineered wiring....it starts on fire. And the best part was, it was right under the gas tank. So after two minutes of blowing and spitting on my motorcycle, the fire goes out. I have since replaced all the wiring in that motorcycle.

MODS LOCK THIS UP; IT'S ONLY GOING TO LEAD TO A FLAMEFEST. Thanks!
Makes sense that it'd cause fire trouble. We were doing a basic lab in physics with a power source and a genius partner of mine decided to hook both ends of the wire to the... I think it was the negative terminal? Anyway, after he hooked them up he lost interest and began to walk away and mess with something else, leaving the wire to smoke and get really hot really fast. Guess who got to yank off the burning alligator clips?
...that anecdote is the roundabout way of asking: if you hooked up a cable with both ends to one battery's negative terminal, would you get the same result?

It just takes a small spark to light any gases leaking from a bad battery.
