Default 3-way speakers considered 3 speakers?

Someone actually held an argument that they have 9 speakers in their grand-am because they have 2 3-way speakers in the back of the car.

I'm sorry, but nothing of me would classify 3-ways as 3 individual speakers. Their reason for calling them 3 individual speakers...? Because Crutchfield said so...

Just a little rant. I know when I talk about my truck's stereo, I only say I have 2 2-ways in the dash, and 2 3-ways in the door. Not to mention that it came stock with 2-ways. Did GM call them 2 speakers in each door? No, they're 2-ways. A way of playing 2 different groups of frequencies from the same speaker housing.

I'm probably wrong anyways...

If they are separate components, they are individual speakers... if they're mounted as one unit, it's one speaker.

That is... the tCs are a 6 speaker system. Two rear, two lower door, and two tweeters by the handle. Now if the tweeters were mounted with the speaker in the lower part of the door, then they would only count as a single speaker with the front. But they're separate.

The other guy is probably just upset that he drives a Grand Am... I know I would be.

Well he was trying to talk about a car he wants to get, a lexus, and he said it has 19 speakers.
My comment was "What do you need 19 speakers for? Heck, why do you even need 9?"
and thats when he started to rant on his Grand Am...

The thing that got me was the "Crutchfield said so" comment.
I've never purchased anything from them, and never will. I've looked through their books, and I dislike how they claim each of their unit is more-or-less top of the line in some way...

I don't think Crutchfield is dumb enough to say they count as 3 speakers. Anything Crutchfield lists says "2-way" or "3-way". It may describe them as being similar to having 2 or 3 speakers, but if that's how that guy interpreted it... he's a moron.
