amd vs intel?
I personally like Intel more because I haven't really had good experiences with AMD, it all depends on your budget right now, if you can id spring for a core duo or if you can afford it a core 2 duo as those blow any AMD product out of the water. Plus with core 2 duo you'll be able to take advantage of 64 bit programming which at the time there isnt much, but in the future more and more programs will be available

I was taught this in school, this also explains the difference.

Yes, Intel is good for multitasking with HT, but with the evolution of dual core Hyperthreading was dropped. It's only in P4's that say it on the box.
With dual core you have essentually two PC's so multi-tasking can be handled much easier.
Actually the Dual cores do have hyperthreading. I have the Pentium D 830. Runs about as fast as my old P4 2.66GHz but I can run way more stuff at the same time. Runs hotter than a witch's tit though so I had to get a watercooling kit.
Intel is better for longterm stability and not really that fantastic for overclockers. AMD is great for overclockers cuz you can get way more potential out of a much cheaper processor vs. intel. And for most overclockers, after a year or so, they look for a new chip out of performance concerns so the shorter lifespan involved in overclocking is moot for them.

While I dont like to think of Wikipedia as a trusted souce...

Hyper-Threading was used to multi task, with dual cores you can multitask with two different cpu's. Therefore hyperthreading was dropped.

As far as the new Core 2 Duo's.

Search for Hyperthreading and you will see that its not there!
However, if you look at the box on the right hand side they appear to be releaseing it for XEON 5000. That and they may use HT on later Core Duo chips to boost the performance even more.

ok so when it comes down to it, it seems likes its just a preference, both are pretty good. I usually dont do more than 2 things at a time so would il be better off getting an amd instead of a pentium with hyperthreading or dual core?
Hehe, I think you should know by now not to ask that question, because Intel vs AMD never ends.
Basically, it doesnt matter. Find a good mobo/cpu deal and buy it with goodies like 2gb's ram. And make sure the mobo has PCI express for a sweet video card.
Although I would go for one of Intel or Amd's 2 Core CPUs because 2 cpus are better then one.
If your not looking at buying it tonight or so I would wait for a good deal on www.fatwallet.com\c\18 or www.slickdeals.net altough usually its a deal on a full PC that you would have to upgrade a bit.
