Oh, I'm Gran Turismo till I die....GT 4 LIFE.
But I don't have GT5 yet. I've had them all except the very first one. Hell I still have not completed them...lol. Like 98% on one, and the PS2 I haven't finished even half of probably.
I just picked up a PS3 yesterday and a 1080P LG (to much living room space in the Townhouse, needed to take up some room some how...hehee), along with GRID (been playing it on my woman's-sisters-BF's PS3). I have some decent progress on his PS3, so it was only natural to buy that game when I got my PS3.
I want to hook up with some of yall and play online, just wondering if there was anyone out there on SL that wants to Drift/Grip it with me.

Not yet. I sold my Wii last week because after playing through Nintendo's first-party offerings (Metroid, Smash Brothers, Zelda), there wasn't anything that I was interested in. I'm not big into party games and shovelware crap, and when anything comes out multisystem the Wii always gets the gimped cartoony version (EA's Allplay, Star Wars, no Unleashed, it gets Clone Wars instead, Ghostbusters, I could go on).
I'm still debating a PS3 or XBox360. I'm looking at the PS3 because I'm not a big Microsoft fan, it comes with Blueray, and will have Gran Turismo 5. On the downside, most of the people in my car club have the 360 for CoD4.
I'll be picking up GRID or another racing title to tide me over. I saw the cars weren't upgradeable though, so I'm not sure about it. One of my favorite aspects of Gran Turismo was getting a mid-level performer, upgrading it and running and beating cars from more powerful classes.
Still looking at distribution of funds too, I'm in the middle of an engine build and piston coating runs $120 - 200. Still need rods, bearings, and intercooler and gauges as well, so it's a question of pushing out the engine build for a system or waiting until GT5 comes out.

^^PS3 > XBOX 360. CoD4 is my next purchase for the PS3. Motorstorm is a good pickup too, my boy called me and said it was only $20 bucks, so I had him grab me a copy. I'm waiting on the full Gran Turismo 5 to come out, instead of buying Prologue. Can't wait for it though, that's my game right there.
Yeah, no car modding inPrologue
. I heard Motorstorm didn't have much more to it than insane visuals, but hey, for $20 I could live with it being a tech demo. Check out RIdge Racer 7, I played the demo in Gamestop and the drift through turn mechanic is very fun. It's an arcade style racer too, so if you have friends over who aren't nuts about Gran Turismo they can still play it. Might pick up one this month after the core system gets bumped to 80 gig.
I've got a functioning PS2, so I'm not real worried about backwards compatability.

Simulation is more than just racing physics. Visual realism is a strong element, as well as depth of licensing on actual vehicles. Sound, etc all help to immerse the gamer in the racing environment. Forza 2 seems to have stepped it up on these fronts, but I wouldn't crown it over GT 5 yet when GT5 hasn't even been released. A LOT of stuff can change in over a year of development, including damage physics, AI improvements and possibly bump-mapping tracks to handling like Motostorm.
For online play, Forza is still probably going to be better since no one has been able to touch Live yet, Nintendo was god aweful with the friend codes and Home isn't out yet (still).

Yes visuals play a role, but graphics don't make a game good. They're not going to revamp the physics, because it takes just way too much work. They said they wouldn't do damage, because they don't want "watered down" damage like in Forza 2. If GT5 has sound anything close to GT5P, then it fails hard compared to Forza2. From what I was hearing in GT5P, it was nothing more than generic car sounds. I began losing interest in the series after 2, because the car line up was just getting pathetic. PD has Nissan so far up its ___, it's a joke. If I remember correctly, GT4 (maybe it was 3...) had almost 80 Skylines.
As far as the graphics go, they're truly amazing in GT5P, but it still doesn't offer much of a sense of speed. Same goes for Forza. 200 'feels' like 20. They need to somehow incorporate blurring, shaking, etc.
Not sure how indepth the tuning will be in GT5, but Forza2 wasn't enough to please me, and you could tune just about anything.
Forza 2 online wasn't that great, simply because of how ___ some people were. It was very hard to find a group of people who would actually race without slamming into the back of you when they realized they had no chance of getting past you. Plus the auction house had a horrible economy since people were able to unlock custom paint designs via memory card/PC connectivity.

The other fun factor was that 2 of my buds have Motorstorm and it's online play, so that was the other factor.
I have the 80G PS3. Not the one in the MGS4 package, but the other 80G version.

I hope the sound will be good, haven't heard prologue, but I know on GT4 they did actual recordings from a lot of the cars, as well as running multi-camera car setups on the actual tracks as reference for the in-game track. I hadn't seen as much real-world test and validation on any other game to date, they got lap times within 1 sec. of the actual drivers.
Haven't heard too much on GT5, hopefully they kept all the old data to feed into the new game engine. Need for Speed, Underground actually gave me the best sense of speed to date. I just wish they had some daylight racing, drifting was fun as hell though. Carbon and Prostreet seem to have dragged the series down with their rediculous "story" modes.
If you're itching for an online play racing sim, try Live for Speed for the PC. Graphics are a little dated, PS2 era but from what I understand the physics are very accurate. It's still in development, and try before you buy if you want to check the free stuff.

Nothing the Logitech Driving Force Pro couldn't solve....hehee. Going down the back stretch at the Nur Burg with that steering wheel was unreal the first time I played GT4 with it.
