Has to do with residual payments. When your performance is re-played, you are entitled to a small royalty payment. I am a Screen Actors Guild member and get residuals for the on-screen performance of puppets and FX in movies and commercials I work on.

They are trying to not pay residuals for "new technologies" such as internet downloads and streaming video. If Spiderman 3 or AVP-R (movies I worked in) are downloaded, streamed or otherwise delivered via "new technologies", they do not want to pay us...even though it is the same as a DVD rental. pay per view or broadcast TV play which they are obligated to pay us for. The studios just want to make even more money off the backs of those of us who do the actual work.

If the writers cave in, our SAG contract is due up in May and they have a point of leverage to deny or minimize our payments also.

I back the writers. Strike until they stop trying to cheat us out of residuals. But I hope they can settle before the Oscars.

This isht worked out pretty well for Kiefer, huh? He gets out of jail tomorrow and he hasn't missed a thing because of the writers' strike. Jack Bauer is still a cool guy in my book. Can't wait to see him start kicking some more terrorist áss.
