Can We Get a Real Chat Room Going?
It would be nice to get a real chat room via the Scionlife website, wouldn't it?
What if we had an external one if we couldn't get Scionlife to support one? Not a AIM chat room or whatever is stickied but one easier to get to that you don't have to be a AIM member to enjoy?
Anybody care to set it up? Anybody want a good chat room?

One needs client software for AIM chat. There are MANY choices, and I, for one, DO NOT and WILL NOT run the AOL AIM software, so I'm glad there are many others to choose from.
Once one has the requisite application, one simply goes to http://www.aim.com/ and finds the little "Get a Screen Name" button thingie (they move it around all the time, but it IS there on the page), and gets a screen name. It's free. No problem.
Once you have a screen name, you set up your AIM client and head for the ScionLife chat room...
As to other active chat possibilities, this has been discussed ad naseum and the biggest problem appeared to be the Boss not wanting to go JavaScript for the chat.

What's wrong with JavaScript? Just a personal dislike for it?
I didn't know this had been discussed a whole lot. Gosh, the chat room would really be a hit here though! What if we set a Java one that has nothing to do with Scionlife and then have Max link it in that sticky (and we can all have it in our signatures)? That'd be slick!
What do you think, Tomas? Could that be done? (I'm not computer smart enough to know).

The problem with JavaScript is enunciated by Darren a few posts above the one I linked to...
As to someone else wanting to set up a chat, that's up to them. My leased server has a nice chat application installed, any I have off-and-on thought about setting it up for use, since I have the bandwidth available, but then I snap to my senses and remember I don't care all that much for chat, and would not enjoy at all having to ride herd on the use of me server for something I don't care all that much for.
Anyone can set up anything they would like to set up. If someone sets up a decent chat and dedicates it to use by ScionLife members, that would be fine. Set it up, support it, push it, get users, etc. Do it.
Just don't expect me to do it.

Tom, it'd be like a little gift you'd be giving all your ScionLife children if you did. Think of us, your children, and the joy you'd bring us! lol
Right now, for some reason I can use my AIM through Trillian but do not have it downloaded (to my knowledge). I might try and download me a little something something to fix that. I do wish it was easier accessible (I'm having a grammar problem... I've tried many ways to say this but can't so live with it, lol) for everyone to get to the chat though.
Hm, I know chat rooms are easily set up in message boards, even free message boards. Now, would this work? We set up up a dummy message board, hook up the chat to it and then just directly link it?
