Default Carbon-fiber replacement - aluminum fiber metal laminate

For those of you who deal with carbon fiber, I found this article about a new material. It's basically composite aluminum and is 20% lighter, stronger and cheaper to make than carbon fiber. Look for this to be popping up in automotive racing in the future, right now the aviation community is looking at it for weight and cost reduction (less weight = better fuel economy = cheaper to fly)

That looks like it might be a while still though. Has potential for sure... but hard to say when we might actually see it on the market.
