I'm tired of paying too much for cell service. I really don't use the cell phone a whole bunch... I have yet to break 60 minutes per month... though I can't see living without it.

Who has the best deal for the least money?

Has anyone tried Opex Wireless? I have been using their 2.7 cent/minutes long distance service for a couple years on my home line without a hitch...

It looks like they are using the same system/setup as cingular (based on their map coverage).

So far this seems to be the best deal I could find... Can you find a better deal?

I have used Verizon, Sprint, and Nextel so far. I loved Verizon. Hated Sprint. Nextel was ok - just expensive and the walky-talky feature was annoying -though the phone was virtually indistructable!

I never (in over 6 years) have gone over 60 minutes usage per month. There is no need for me to spend that much on minutes I will never use.

Does anyone else know of a good plan for the least amount of money? I hate to waste money and don't want to pay for something I don't need/want/use.

The current phone has the walkie-talkie feature which (for us) is more a pain in the butt than anything else! I really hate it and wish I could have turned off that feature.

 

Then get a pre-paid phone. I've been working in this industry for 5 years, and for someone who uses as little as you apparently do, there is no need to get a contract of any sort. With T-Mobile (guess who I work for), if you buy a prepaid phone and a $100 card, you'll have 1000 minutes available to you for the next 365 days

Do you know if you can port your number to a prepaid phone?

If so, does the number need to be ported right away? I would like to test the phone/coverage before going all in. I live on the border of most coverage, so it is hit and miss with some carriers.

 

I used to be with t-mobile too and I use to have this plan for like 19.99 a month for 60 whenever minutes and like 500 weekend. That was the cheapest one I seen. Don't know if they still have it or not though.

 

Yes you can port a # to prepaid.....Just make sure you dont cancel your service once the port is complete it will cancel your service for you automatically ports take on avg 1hr to complete but can take up to 48hrs

Looks like... according to thier coverage map, I live in an area colored by the two lightest green squares (less than good but above none).

 

I have T-Mobile prepaid on a Nokia 6101 phone. Target was selling the 6101 for $99 on Monday instead of $129-149 range. I rarely used my cell other than call an order for sushi. I did get the $100 prepaid card and will last me a whole year. I use prepaid T-MO to text to my peeps in Asia and at times call them up. Altough calling them up is expensive. Clear sound though, at least on the Nokia 6101. I also found the code to unlock my 6101 which means I can use most of the available sim cards around the globe. If I happen to be in Europe, I can pick Orange, T-Mo or whatever carrier that uses a frequency that the 6101 is able to detect.

I used to have Virgin Mobile. Runs on Sprint PCS system. It's okay, sound clarity was not that good probably due to my phone. However, it seems old school technology that Sprint PCS and Verizon uses penetrates homes better than GSM. Beware of Cingular's To Go PrePaid. There a daily connection charge of a ~$1.25 if you place or receive a call or receive or send text messages. Shady.
